A great blast in the Skyhawk tonight! I planned a short low level cross country from Ohakea, down through the Wairarapa valley, visiting some places from my teenage years, then back to Ohakea via the Tararua range.
Forecast weather for the route wasn’t great, but I hoped to get at least some low level work in.
Departing Ohakea was fine, and the transit across the Manawatu was uneventful. After the first turn at Woodville the clouds closed in, and by Eketahuna the rain started. Pressing on, the conditions continued to deteriorate, which made for a pretty exciting blast down the valley!
Crossing Bidwells cutting, on the way to Martinborough and the weather finally lifted enough to enjoy the final part of the low level route.
By the time I got back to Ohakea the weather there had shut down too!

A challenging approach to finish the flight 🙂
